Demolition Lovers. Chap. 2 Start Of Something New

The blazing hot desert sun beat down on Samantha. Her pale skin was already turning bright red from the harsh rays. Though the city was miles behind her, she didn’t stop. Even though her feet had been throbbing for the last couple of hours now, she was determined to keep going. Yet she knew she would have to find shelter and water soon. If she didn’t, Sam would pass out right in the white sand. Easy enough for something or someone to come along and kill her.

She stumbled  against a phone pole and shaded her eyes. Was that buildings in the distance or was the heat and dehydration messing with her mind? Sam shook her head but the movement made her dizzy,” I need to sit for a few minutes then I’ll go investigate those buildings.” She mumbled to herself.
If anyone was near her, her mumblings would have sounded odd because she wasn’t speaking clearly but in her head. She was talking fine.
As soon as she sat down, her vision went black on the edges. With a groan she slumped against the pole, passing out from exhaustion.
           Crimson made sure Shadow’s gait match that of Ghost’s as her and Shutter rode. The dark bay mare was tossing her head and jogging sideways with pent up energy,” easy girl,” she soothed, running her hand down the mares neck. Looking at her friend SHutter. Whose raven hair was flowing down from under her red helmet. Crimson’s own light brown was in a tight braid down her back,“Think the horses are glad to be out Shutter?” Crimson asked her friend.

They had decided to let their horses stretch their legs after being confined to their stalls during the last storm.

Shutter nodded and ran a gloved hand down Ghost’s dapple grey neck,” I say let’s gallop them on the flat up ahead. Get some steam out.” she suggested. Talking about a nice flat stretch of desert, free from rocks and holes and other things that could hurt a horse's fragile legs. Where the girls could let the two horses run. It was a nice mile and a half run Shutter cleared herself so she could exercise the animals

“Sounds good to me. Shadow here has been dying to run since we left the barn. I think of we don't let her run, she will go crazy.” Crimson joked. At her rider’s words, SHadow tossed her head again,”First one to the other side, doesn’t have to do dishes for a month?” She asks slyly. She hated doing dishes.

“Oh you are so on,” Shutter laughed then nudged Ghosts sides with her heels,” Git up boy”  Ghost snorted, half reared and took off at a gallop. She laughed and leaned low over his withers, urging the grey mustang to stretch out.

Crimson smirked and nudged Shadows side.”Lets go girl.” She said as Shadow took off at a gallop. Crimson leaned low as not to create too much drag that would slow Shadow down.”You won't win.” Crimson yelled to Shutter as they race.
Shutter cursed under her breath as Crimson and Shadow passed her,” come on Ghost,”

Crimson laughed as she passed her friend.”Good girl.” She said to Shadow as she slowly pulls her to a stop just past where they had said they would stop. She looks at the phone pole near her and tilts her head to the left as she sees an odd shaped shadow at its base.”Shutter, come here.” She called out.
“what, what is it?” Shutter called, bringing Ghost down to a walk,” is something wrong?”  she looked around the area they were in. Looking for signs of danger.

Crimson points to the shadow at the base of the pole.”I think something or someone is there. Why don’t you go check it out?” She was nervous about what the shadow might be hiding.

Shutter shaded her eyes with a gloved hand, squinting her eyes to see what the shape was,”.......it looks like a human…...in what looks like. I think. City clothes.” she dropped her hand and looked at her friend,”what is a city person doin’ out here? She doesn’t look like a drac or crow.”

“Maybe they ran away from the city after they woke up. How she has survived out here up till now is beyond me.” Said Crimson. “Should we go help her?”

“hmmmm” Shutter sat in the saddle, staring in the direction of Sam’s passed out form,” You hold the horses here. I’m gonna go up to her on foot.,” she swung out of her saddle and handed Ghost’s reins up to Crimson,” I’ll give the signal if I need help.”

“Alright. Just be careful my friend.’ Crim said as she took Ghosts reins. She was nervous about the stranger. Crimson had run ins with strangers before and they usually ended with her hurt, either physically and or mentally. She had learned to be cautious.

.”I will” Shutter said over her shoulder as she slowly made her way to where Sam was laying.  Drawing her gun out once she was a few feet away,”oh my.” she whispered, seeing how sunburnt Sam’s skin was. Kneeling down beside Sam to check her over. Poor girl not only had a bad sunburn but it looked like she had a few cuts on her hands. Who knows what caused those.  She turns towards Crimson to wave her forward. After seeing the girl’s condition, Shutter decided she needed medical attention and their first aid kit was back at the Inn.

Crimson got off Shadows back and walked forward with both horses. walking slowly, still abit nervous of the unconscious city girl.”What’s going on Shutter?” She asked when close enough. She looked at Sam and let out a low whistle.”She needs help.”

“We need to get her home and treated.”  She stood up and wiped her dusty hands on her dark colored jeans,” Shadow is the best outta the two to carry two people.’ she glanced at Crim,” will you be ok having her up there with you?”

“I will be fine having her up with me. I am used to having sacks of supplies up here from when we go to market. Can't be much different.” Crimson said as she got back in Shadow’s saddle.

Shutter nodded,” Ok,’ She leaned down, taking The redhead into her arms,”get up on Shadow. Once you are comfy, I’ll hand her up to you.”

Crimson nodded and climbed back into the saddle. She adjusted herself so there would be room for Sam.”Hand her up.” She said, reaching down.

With a soft grunt, Shutter lifted Sam up to Crimson. Not easy since this girl was about the same size and weight Shutter was. But she got her up onto to Shadow’s back.

Crimson helped pull Sam up into the saddle. She made sure Sam was held tight in her arms.

Shutter helped make sure  the girl was well secured on  Crimson’s saddle,” alright let’s head home” she sighed, climbing into her own saddle,” and we need to hurry cause it looks like another storm is coming in” she said pointing to the west where black storm clouds gathered on the horizon,”And this one is coming off the city..”
Crimson glanced at the clouds and with Shutter’s instruction, made Shadow do a careful, slow turn. So not to jostle Sam too much, facing home. Shutter led the way back home, a small Inn a little ways off Route Guano.  She made sure to pick the smoothest yet fastest path down the road.
Pulling level with Crimson as they entered the gates,” She still out?”
Crim nodded,” yea, hasn’t moved at all.” she answered after checked her passenger,” hey Shutter…….what if she dies?”
Shutter shook her head,” Don’t think that way Crim. We need to keep our minds positive”
“oh sorry Shutter,” Crim bit her lip.
Shutter leaned over and patted her friends shoulder,” Hey I’m not getting onto you. I’m just stating a point.”
“I couldn’t tell” Crim said softly.
Shutter gave her a soft smile,” I’m gonna ride ahead and let Jonny know what's up”
Crim nodded as Shutter nudged Ghost’s sides with her heels and put him into a faster trot. Shadow picked her pace up a tad to try to keep up with the grey stud but Crim gently pulled her back to the smooth jog,”easy now girl. We gotta go slow cause we have someone who's injured with us” Crim said patting her mares neck. Who gave a snort like she understood and slowed down.
Shutter had already gotten Jonny and had put Ghost up by the time Crim had gotten to the barnyard.
“so…..tell me again how you two found a city girl?” Jonny asked, eyeing the girl who the other two had found.
Shutter stood beside him,” I told you babe, we found her bout a mile west of here.” she looked at him,” where’s the med kit?”
“I’ll get it. Put her in the room closest to ours so we can keep an eye on her” he gave Shutter’s cheek a kiss before disappearing back inside to get the kit. She watched him going inside before getting to business. By the time Jonny came back out with the kit, he had to search the whole Inn for it” annoying when people don’t put things back where they belong” he mumbled, looking for the girls. Finding them in the room he told them to put the new girl in,” you two did a lot while I was gone”
“well it did take ya a while to get the medkit,” Shutter teased him.
He just stuck his tongue out at her and gave her the kit.
“What do we treat first? Her hands or the massive sunburn?” Crimson asked her friend.
Shutter dug out some aloe,” put this on her burns after I wash the dust off her skin” she explained while grabbing the bucket she had set near the fireplace to warm up a bit.
Crimson nods and watches as Shutter slowly washed the dust of the desert off of Sam. Crimson gently took the aloe and rubbed it on the burns once all the dust was removed and her skin was dry.. Shutter and Crimson work silently together to patch her up.
